Description
A peer-reviewed open-access journal publishing original research, review articles, and analytical studies across the social sciences. KJSS provides a scholarly platform for researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners to examine the structures, institutions, and dynamics that shape human societies, governance systems, and social development, with a particular emphasis on African and developing world contexts.
Aims and Scope
KJSS welcomes original research articles, review papers, case studies, and short communications spanning all areas of the social sciences. Subject areas include sociology and social theory, political science and political economy, development studies and international development, international relations and diplomacy, public administration and management, governance and institutional reform, democracy and electoral studies, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, social policy and welfare systems, human rights and social justice, gender studies and social inclusion, migration and refugee studies, urbanisation and rural development, community development and civic engagement, decentralisation and local governance, public policy analysis and evaluation, civil society and non-governmental organisations, media and political communication, cultural studies and social change, and the sociology of education, health, and religion. The journal is particularly interested in interdisciplinary research that connects social science theory with empirical evidence and policy relevance. Studies that examine the social, political, and institutional dimensions of development challenges — including poverty, inequality, corruption, democratic backsliding, and social cohesion — are strongly encouraged. Research that engages with African governance systems, postcolonial social dynamics, and south-south development cooperation is especially welcomed. Both theoretical contributions that advance social science scholarship and applied research with direct relevance to policy, governance, and social development are within scope.
